8 most common WORSHIP - HEBREW WORDS

Often when we worship we dont understand the movements, motion or reaason behind what weare doing. Here is a basic list thatmay help shed some light on worship. Prophetic worship may contain all or osme of these elements including others that are guided by the Holy Spirit.

I. Praise vs. Worship
A. Praise = Alabanza an action word
B. Worship Adoracion = spirit responding to spirit, acute awareness of a Holy God
II. Seven Hebrew Words - most often used for praise
A. Halal
1. to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causat. to celebrate; also to stultify: (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool ( ish, ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

2. Ps. 22:22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise (halal) you.
3. Psalm 102:18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise (halal) the LORD.
B. Yadah
1. to use (i.e. hold out) the hand; phys. to throw (a stone, an arrow) at or away; espec. to revere or worship (with extended hands); intens. to bemoan (by wringing the hands): cast (out), (make) confess ( ion), praise, shoot, (give) thank ( ful, s, sgiving).
2. Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise (yadah) him.
3. Gen 29:35 (1st usage) She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "This time I will praise (yadah) the LORD." So she named him Judah.
4. 2 chron 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise(halal) the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise(yadah) the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

2. Ps. 50:23 Whoso offereth praise (todah) glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

H. (Number 8) Worship
1. most often used word - shachah - prostrate (espec. reflex. in homage to royalty or God): bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obeisance, do reverence, make to stoop, worship.

2. Ps. 95:6 O come, let us worship(shachah) and bow down: let us kneel(barak) before the LORD our maker.
3. Ps. 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise(yadah) thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
4. Ps. 132:7 We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.
